WHO WE ARE

Our Story.

Aguata-Orumba Women Organization of Southern California (AGORWO) is a nonprofit association dedicated to advancing community well-being through women-led collaboration, cultural preservation, and service-oriented outreach.

The organization was founded in response to the untimely loss of an Aguata-Orumba woman, with the initial purpose of fostering sisterhood, compassion, and a strong support network among women of Aguata-Orumba origin in Southern California.

Over time, the organization has expanded its mission to include broader community outreach initiatives aimed at uplifting underserved communities and promoting sustainable development.

AGORWO remains deeply committed to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage, traditions, and values of the Igbo people for future generations. Through service, unity, and cultural pride, AGORWO strives to create lasting social impact at both local and global levels.

Our Vision

Empowering sisterhood, preserving heritage, and transforming communities for a brighter tomorrow.

Our Mission

AGORWO is committed to building a strong and supportive sisterhood, preserving our Igbo cultural heritage, and uplifting underserved communities.

  • We foster meaningful connections that support and motivate personal and collective growth
  • We proudly celebrate and preserve our Igbo identity, values, traditions, language, art, and music—ensuring our heritage remains vibrant for generations to come
  • AGORWO serves underserved communities across the United States and in our hometowns of Aguata and Orumba by promoting healthier, stronger, and more resilient communities. Our work is guided by equity, access, and long-term impact

HONORING OUR ROOT

Preserving Igbo Heritage.

AGORWO proudly celebrates and preserves Igbo cultural heritage. We ensure that Igbo identity, values, traditions, language, art, and music remain vibrant for generations to come, both in Nigeria and throughout the diaspora.

We support cultural programs, celebrate traditional events, and create spaces where heritage thrives. This commitment strengthens our community and provides a foundation of pride for future generations.

OUR APPROACH

How We Operate.

AGORWO operates through collective action and strategic partnerships. Our members contribute financially and participate in annual outreach programs. We work directly with community leaders in Nigeria and established charitable organizations in the United States.

Every project is guided by equity, access, and long-term impact. We don’t just deliver supplies, we build infrastructure. We don’t provide temporary fixes, we create sustainable solutions that serve entire communities.

Our track record speaks for itself: 30 health centers supported, 11 water systems installed, 22 towns served in Nigeria, 1 Health facility completed and commissioned, and consistent annual support to vulnerable populations across the United States.
