WHO WE ARE
United by Heritage, Driven by Service.
AGORWO women transform healthcare access in Nigerian communities and support vulnerable populations across the United States
Our Story
Aguata-Orumba Women Organization of Southern California (AGORWO) is a women-led nonprofit dedicated to advancing community well-being through collaboration, cultural preservation, and service-driven outreach.
Formed after the untimely loss of an Aguata-Orumba woman, the organization began as a support network built on compassion, unity, and shared responsibility among women of Aguata-Orumba origin in Southern California.
Over time, AGORWO has grown beyond sisterhood into broader community outreach, supporting underserved communities and promoting sustainable development while preserving the cultural heritage, traditions, and values of the Aguata-Orumba people. Guided by unity, service, and cultural pride, AGORWO continues to build meaningful and lasting social impact locally and globally.
Our Vision
Empowering sisterhood, preserving heritage, and transforming communities for a brighter tomorrow.
Our Mission
AGORWO is committed to building a strong and supportive sisterhood, preserving our Igbo cultural heritage, and uplifting underserved communities.
- We foster meaningful connections that support and motivate personal and collective growth
- We proudly celebrate and preserve our Igbo identity, values, traditions, language, art, and music—ensuring our heritage remains vibrant for generations to come
- AGORWO serves underserved communities across the United States and in our hometowns of Aguata and Orumba by promoting healthier, stronger, and more resilient communities. Our work is guided by equity, access, and long-term impact
OUR APPROACH
How We Operate
AGORWO operates through collective action and strategic partnerships. Our members contribute financially and participate in annual outreach programs. We work directly with community leaders in Nigeria and established charitable organizations in the United States.
Every project is guided by equity, access, and long-term impact. We don’t just deliver supplies, we build infrastructure. We don’t provide temporary fixes, we create sustainable solutions that serve entire communities.
Our track record speaks for itself: 30 health centers supported, 11 water systems installed, 22 towns served in Nigeria, 1 complete health facility built and commissioned, and consistent annual support to vulnerable populations across the United States.
